And this is the part most people miss: Colter's character, Louis Gaspare, was set to shine in the sequel. A former French Foreign Legionnaire, Gaspare would have embarked on a daring mission aboard a cargo ship, uncovering a sinister human trafficking operation. With a diverse team of allies, including the ship's second mate and a military-trained passenger, Gaspare aimed to take down the corrupt captain and rescue the innocent captives.
But with Butler's unexpected departure, the sequel's fate was sealed. As an executive producer, Butler held the power to greenlight the project, and his decision left Ship stranded at the dock.
"We were excited to continue Gaspare's journey," Colter added. "Picking up where the first film left off, we wanted to explore his character's growth and the challenges he faced. It's a shame we couldn't bring this story to life."
