What John Kufuor Said About Akufo-Addo Post-COVID: National Cathedral, Bond Market & Unity (2026)

The post-COVID era left former President Kufuor puzzled by the Akufo-Addo administration's actions. This revelation sheds light on the internal dynamics and shifts within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor recently shared his perspective, stating he found himself struggling to understand the direction of the Akufo-Addo administration following the COVID-19 pandemic. He acknowledged the government's strong start but expressed confusion about several decisions made after the pandemic's outbreak.

During an interview on the Delay Show, which aired on Saturday, December 6th, Mr. Kufuor highlighted that he was kept in the dark regarding key national projects. He noted that the NPP government, which had leveraged his past achievements to gain power in the 2016 election, underwent a noticeable change.

"They started very well, but when COVID-19 came, things began to shift. I will commend him for how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic, but afterward, I didn’t understand many of the things they were doing," he explained.

But here's where it gets controversial... Mr. Kufuor also revealed his lack of awareness regarding the controversial National Cathedral project. Initially, he believed it was a private initiative. Only later did he discover it was funded with state resources. He pointed out that even after demolishing judges' bungalows for the project, it remained unfinished.

"Things like the bond market and the National Cathedral… They didn’t consult me. All I knew was that they were building it. I initially thought it was a private initiative, only to later realise they were using government resources. They even demolished the judges’ building for it, and yet they still couldn’t complete it," he stated.

Mr. Kufuor also emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition NPP, urging members to uphold the party’s core values as they prepare for the future. He believes unity is paramount for the party's success.

And this is the part most people miss... The lack of consultation and transparency regarding significant projects raises questions about the internal communication and decision-making processes within the government.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with Mr. Kufuor's observations, or do you have a different perspective on the Akufo-Addo administration's actions after the pandemic? Share your opinions in the comments below!
