Tom Wilson, a key player for the Washington Capitals, will be sharing a room with a familiar face at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. But it's not his teammate and 'best bud' Logan Thompson, as initially thought. Instead, Wilson will be bunking with former Capitals goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who played alongside him for two seasons from 2022-2024. This reunion brings back memories of their time together in DC, before Kuemper was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Pierre-Luc Dubois. Since the trade, Kuemper has had a career revival, finishing third in the Vezina Trophy voting last season. In 36 games for the Kings this year, he's posted impressive stats, including a 2.59 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. Despite his success, Kuemper is expected to be Canada's third goalie, behind Thompson and Jordan Binnington, on the depth chart. Meanwhile, Wilson, who was originally expected to play a checking-line role, has been promoted to the team's top line alongside Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini. The Capitals' alternate captain and leading scorer has 49 points (23g, 26a) in 50 games this season. All Canadian players arrived in Italy on Sunday morning, and they won't take the ice for game action until they face Czechia on February 12.
