Supergirl Takes Flight: Blondie Classic in Teaser - What to Expect (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling ride as Supergirl soars to new heights, backed by an iconic Blondie classic!

Unveiling the Party Girl Supergirl

In the upcoming DCU film, House of the Dragon's Millie Alcock transforms into a hard-partying Supergirl, setting the tone for a unique and edgy adventure. The 1980 classic "Call Me" by Blondie, originally written for American Gigolo, now fuels the journey of a Kryptonian with a taste for fun.

The new teaser trailer showcases a hungover Kara Zor-El, played by Alcock, and even her dog Krypto, creating a vibe that's a world away from this year's Superman. "He sees the good in everyone," Supergirl declares, "I see the truth."

A Rock & Roll Take on Supergirl

Directed by Craig Gillespie, known for I, Tonya, the film is described as "a way more rock & roll" take on the DC universe. DC Studios' co-CEO James Gunn reveals, "It's a little rougher, and she's a tougher character. She's not Superman at all."

The movie draws inspiration from the 2022 DC Comics mini-series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. It seems to follow the series' arc, where Supergirl teams up with the alien Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley) for revenge against the deadly Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). Adding to the excitement, fan-favorite DC character Lobo (Jason Momoa) makes an appearance, though the trailer keeps his role under wraps.

A Traumatized Heroine

As the story unfolds, we learn that Supergirl, like her comic book counterpart, survived the initial explosion of Krypton, but her home city's journey into space left her deeply scarred. "She carries a lot of emotional baggage and demons," Gillespie explains, "which sets her apart from Superman's journey. It's a surprising and unique headspace for her character."

"Female superheroes are often portrayed as flawless," Gunn adds, "but Supergirl is far from perfect, much like male superheroes have been allowed to be. I'm thrilled to bring this fresh perspective to the DCU."

And here's where it gets controversial... Will this imperfect portrayal of Supergirl resonate with audiences? Is it a step towards more realistic and relatable female superheroes? Or does it risk oversimplifying complex characters?
