SPIE Wind Connect, a subsidiary of SPIE Global Services Energy, has secured a significant contract with Seaway7, marking a pivotal moment in the company's journey. This contract involves the intricate task of delivering inter-array cable termination and testing for the Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland. The project's scope is vast, encompassing the intricate termination and testing of a 66kV inter-array cable network, a crucial component in linking wind turbine generators to offshore substations.
The Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms are strategically located in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone within the southwestern Baltic Sea, off the coast of northern Poland. Each farm is designed with an impressive installed capacity of approximately 720MW, resulting in a combined capacity of around 1.44GW. This ambitious project involves a complex layout, featuring ten strings of five wind turbine generators, all interconnected through 66kV inter-array cables.
Within each string, a meticulous process unfolds. The outermost turbine is connected using a 400mm² inter-array cable, and subsequently, a 1000mm² cable takes on the task of transmitting the total string power to the offshore substation. This intricate setup highlights the technical prowess required to ensure the seamless integration of wind turbines and substations.
Mike Senior, the managing director of SPIE Wind Connect, expressed pride in the company's selection by Seaway7. He emphasized the technical expertise and proven track record of SPIE Wind Connect in high-voltage cable termination and testing, particularly in the context of large-scale offshore wind projects. This contract serves as a testament to the company's ability to deliver safe and reliable solutions in the challenging offshore wind energy sector.
The upcoming offshore campaign, set to commence in the second quarter of 2026, will be a pivotal moment for SPIE Wind Connect. It underscores the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and technical excellence in the renewable energy sector. As the project unfolds, SPIE Wind Connect will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable energy, contributing to the global transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
