Diego Lopes Reflects on UFC 325 Title Bout Loss: 'We'll Come Back and Keep Going' (2026)

Diego Lopes has shared his thoughts in a heartfelt statement following his recent title fight defeat against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 325, which took place in Sydney.

Lopes, whose record now stands at 27 wins and 8 losses in mixed martial arts (MMA), and 6 wins alongside 3 losses in the UFC, earned part of the Fight of the Night bonus for his valiant effort in going the full distance against Volkanovski, who boasts an impressive record of 28 wins and 4 losses in MMA, with 15 of those victories occurring in the UFC. Despite the thrilling nature of the match, Lopes was unable to secure the UFC featherweight title for the second time, which undoubtedly stings for the athlete.

Adding to the challenges he faced during the fight, Lopes suffered serious injuries by breaking both of his feet while competing, a testament to the physical toll such high-level bouts can exert on fighters.

In the aftermath, Lopes took to Instagram to express his reflections on the event that unfolded at the Qudos Bank Arena. He remarked, "There are certain things in life you just have to accept and move on from. We’ll keep working. It took a lot to get here. And we’re not going to stop. We’ll come back, dust ourselves off, and keep going. Every fight is different; every fight presents a unique challenge, especially when you’re up against one of the all-time greats."

He acknowledged the nagging question of whether more could have been done, asserting, "Certainly, we’ll never be satisfied, because we’ll always carry the feeling that we could have achieved more. But it's important to remember that we didn't face this challenge alone. Just like us, there’s a competitor on the other side who is equally determined to win. We moved, we landed kicks, attempted takedowns, and made efforts to submit him while also delivering powerful strikes and defending against his advances. However, sometimes, despite giving it your all, it simply isn't enough."

In closing, Lopes expressed gratitude for his well-being and that of his loved ones, stating, "I’m healthy, my family is healthy, my team is healthy. So we’re good. 🙌🏻" This final note not only reflects his resilience but also his commitment to push forward after the setback.
